Cats, dogs and most other animals shed tiny flecks of skin called dander along with their fur or feathers. Unfortunately, many people are allergic to pet dander. Since people spend more time inside in fall and winter, allergy symptoms are even more common. You can remove pet dander by bathing and brushing your pets regularly, cleaning your Cartersville, Georgia home often, and using an air purifier.

Bathe and Brush Your Pets

You should bathe your pet every week, even if you have an animal that many people don’t wash like a cat or a rabbit. Cats are known for their fear of water, but they can get used to baths just like dogs.

You should also brush your pet outside or in your basement every day. That way, you won’t spread pet dander by accident, and you can remove most of it before it has a chance to impact your indoor air quality.

Clean Your Home Often

Allergens like pet dander can stick to walls, floors and furniture. You should clean your home regularly to remove them.

Vacuum daily, use a damp cloth to dust at least twice per week, and steam clean your carpeting and furniture often. Use a dust mask when you clean, and keep pets away from your furniture. Instead of letting your pet sit on your bed, buy separate bedding with a washable cover.

Use a Quality Air Purifier

An air cleaner or air purifier can take care of any pet dander that your HVAC system’s air filter misses. Some models can even remove viruses and bacteria. You should change your air purifier and HVAC system’s filters once per month.
